Billy Joel – My Life

His music is loved or loathed by the general public.  Billy Joel was a part of Michael’s life since he picked My Life as his theme song back when Bosom Buddies was on TV.  Michael even uprooted and headed west like the song’s main character.  You could count on Michael to slip that number into a jukebox, especially when a bar’s patrons tilted to the loathing side of the Joel spectrum.  Picture Michael mustering support for the song from the crowd and gaining disciples.

Billy Joel – Honestly

However, the song that may delineate Billy Joel fans and foes is Honestly.  It is either an plaintive plea for truth or a saccharine turd disguised as a cheesefood dollop.  As Michael once described it, Honestly is the song the asshole manager passionately emotes at the work Christmas party after-party karaoke jam.  His performance makes his subordinates believe the guy actually has a soul.  He even tells them he loves them – from the stage – and is looking forward to great things working together in the New Year.

The next day he fires them, blaming the company’s restructuring.  This while he is spotted smiling as he arrives in his new Range Rover.

Rod Stewart – Young Turks

At Michael’s request, and before big games, the Flyers have been playing Young Turks by Rod Stewart in the locker room.
