1977. August. I’m helping my dad put cedar shakes on our house. Elvis has just died. We are listening to a nonstop Elvis tribute on his radio. “Lord Almighty” – what an opening lyric. Not sure, but this is a tune that will get you moving. The King. He lives on.

Memories of youth. This tune first came to our attention at 9515 on the local week night program, Video Rocks. We didn’t have cable, i.e., no MTV. 30 minutes at 11 pm weekdays. We were introduced to so many great things. INXS was just getting picked up on college radio. Anyway, present day, this tune…

Fall 1983. I’m at a soccer tournament. I’m waiting for our next game. Just sitting behind a net. Two players from another team are nearby. Scottish accents. Cool mullets. Juggling a soccer ball with this tune blasting from a boom box. I didn’t realize it right away until their father came over. We had played…

I’ve said it before, I really really love The Kinks. Such a deep catalog. Starstruck baby. I’m starstruck.

More from the Stones, its hard to leave them off any year, let alone not have more than one song. This is early in their career and you can hear the influence of band members that are no longer with the band. They had an influence.

Out of Austin, TX, a recommendation from TJ in Austin, TX. The whole album is great. I remember this sentiment and how these kids feel. Thankfully they are making amazing rock music. To the voices in my head…

I was going to add Surrender from this album to the list. But this tune, which is live, is also from the War album. The second tune is from the Boy album. I always loved how they could go from these two songs live. I had first heard it in 1984 listening to the King…

The opening guitar riff, synth, count in…you know this tune and all the words, I can show you some of the people in my life, driving me mad, you get the point. I know I spent much of the 90s trying to escape this band (thanks top 40 radio). But I am glad to say…

A repeat band here on the playlist, it was a hard decision what song should be selected from this album. The whole thing is epic. I’d like to catch these youths live. I’ll be like that narc, Homer Simpson.

Nostalgia once again, just like smells bring us back to places in our history, so does music. A song that says it all, enjoy the magic moments. I hope you all have many.

A storyteller no doubt, 2Pac, with a sample from Bruce Hornsby and the Range (the only way they will ever make it to a playlist), grips you up with reality.

I let Spotify DJ not long ago, right after Jana planned a trip for the 5 of us to Italy, in June, for 7 days. The bots were def listening…but their choice seemed benevolent and I accept their suggestion.

So, this had been in a playlist on my Spotify, but a text from Michael McTigue sometime in November saying this album was playing at the supermarket had me thinking he was more likely dancing than browsing isles for grocery items. So not having any video footage of that shopping trip, I’ll leave it to…

I discovered a Metallica cover album – well, heard about it, and checked it out. To me this was a standout by Chris Stapleton, especially the CODA starting at 5:13 and ending with sirens. Not sure if he set them off with wailing, but it feels like a necessary part of the song.

Just released this fall 2022 as a 4 album set composed during the pandemic. Read about it here. So much to say about this one, especially as the last song. I’ll leave it at that. Enjoy.
